Monique Burr Foundation Child Safety Matters® (K-5 students)
2 sessions per grade, time length varies by grade

MBF Child Safety Matters® is a comprehensive, evidence-based curriculum for elementary school students in grades K-5. The program educates and empowers children and all relevant adults with information and strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, all types of abuse, and digital abuse dangers.

CHILDREN

Internet Safety (K-12) (K-5 students) 2 sessions per grade, time length varies by grade

NetSmartz® is NCMEC's online safety education program. It provides age-appropriate videos and activities to help teach children be safer online with the goal of helping children to become more aware of potential online risks and empowering them to help prevent victimization by making safer choices on- and offline. We utilize this program with grade level-based content to teach students safety strategies. Presentation length is based on the grade level.

CHILDREN

Recognize and Respond to Child Abuse and Neglect
1.5 hours

We will discuss the types of abuse and neglect and the signs and symptoms of each so that educators can properly respond to a student who needs help. Responding appropriately to a student who has experienced abuse is crucial to the healing of the child and the investigation that may occur. We will discuss best practices for responding to suspicious of abuse and interacting with students in ways that are trauma informed.

Trauma and the Brain
1.5 hours

The training will cover how trauma impacts the brain and leads to cognitive, behavioral, and mental health changes. It will also cover neuroscientific interventions to treat trauma in children and adolescents. Those working directly with children and adolescents would benefit most from this training (i.e. teachers, juvenile probation officers, therapists etc.).

Darkness to Light® Stewards of Children Training®
2 hours

Stewards of Children® is an evidence-informed, award-winning training that teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Through interviews with child sexual abuse survivors, experts, and treatment providers, Stewards of Children® teaches adults practical actions they can take to reduce instances of child sexual abuse in their organizations, families, and communities.

Darkness to Light® Talking to Children About Safety From Sexual Abuse
45 minutes

Talking about personal safety and sex creates a protective bond between parent and child, increases confidence for both, and instills knowledge that makes children and teens much less vulnerable. Building on the education provided in Stewards of Children®, Darkness to Light’s evidence-informed training on preventing, recognizing, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse, you will learn how to talk with and listen to children about sexual abuse and personal safety.

Darkness to Light® Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children
1.5 hours

Commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) is any sexual activity involving a child for which something of value is given or promised. Building on the education provided in Stewards of Children®, Darkness to Light’s evidence-informed training on preventing, recognizing, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse, this training teaches you about the root cause of commercial sexual exploitation and why preventing sexual abuse is important to reducing the risk of children being sexually exploited. It is highly recommended that participants complete Stewards of Children® prior to taking the course.

Darkness to Light® Healthy touch for Children and Youth
45 minutes

Healthy affection and touch is protective from child sexual abuse especially with parents, caregivers, and family members. Building on the education provided in Stewards of Children®, Darkness to Light’s evidence-informed training on preventing, recognizing, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse, this training teaches you some guidelines for healthy touch and safe, respectful ways to interact with children. It is highly recommended that participants complete Stewards of Children® prior to taking the course.

Darkness to Light® Bystanders Protecting Children
45 minutes

In this training you will learn how to be an active bystander in child sexual abuse prevention and response. You will receive examples of boundary violations and inappropriate behaviors, and how you can make spontaneous and planned interventions that reinforce boundaries and protect children. This training builds on the education provided in Stewards of Children®, Darkness to Light’s evidence-informed training on preventing, recognizing, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse. It is highly recommended that participants complete Stewards of Children® prior to taking the course.

Netsmartz® Internet Safety for Parents
45 minutes

Ensuring children are safe while they are online is just as important as making sure they are safe while out in the community. Learning ways to communicate with children about their online interactions will help keep them safer. We will cover inappropriate content, online privacy, sexting, online solicitation, and cyberbullying. We will include the latest trends and apps to be aware of as we discuss this important topic.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy: PCIT Building Self-Esteem and Managing Behaviors in Children
90-120 minutes

This presentation is based on the skills that are taught in Parent Child Interaction Therapy. This is an evidenced model that helps strengthen relationships between caregivers and children between the ages of 2 and 8. The PRIDE skills can be used in any setting with children to help manage behavior and increase compliance with children who have behavioral problems. This is an interactive, hands-on presentation where participants are able to learn the skills. The presentation is 90-120 minutes and is appropriate for anyone who cares for or works with children in this age range.

Trust Based Relational Intervention® 101
2 hours

TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.

TBRI® is comprised of three essential elements: empowerment, connection, and correction. This abbreviated overview will introduce participants to each of the elements and provide practical solutions for incorporating them with children in your life.

Trust Based Relational Intervention® Caregiver Training
24 hours

TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.

This training will go in-depth to each of the TBRI principles: connection, empowerment and correction. The training is provided through the Fort Bend TBRI Collaborative which Child Advocates of Fort Bend is a proud partner. The training is 24 hours broken into 4 sessions.
