MBF Child Safety Matters® is a comprehensive, evidence-based curriculum for elementary school students in grades K-5. The program educates and empowers children and all relevant adults with information and strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, all types of abuse, and digital abuse dangers.

Recognize and Respond to Child Abuse and Neglect

We will discuss the types of abuse and neglect and the signs and symptoms of each so that educators can properly respond to a student who needs help. Responding appropriately to a student who has experienced abuse is crucial to the healing of the child and the investigation that may occur. We will discuss best practices for responding to suspicions of abuse and interacting with children and youth in ways that are trauma informed.

The training will cover how trauma impacts the brain and leads to cognitive, behavioral, and mental health changes. It will also cover neuroscientific interventions to treat trauma in children and adolescents. Those working directly with children and adolescents would benefit most from this training (i.e. teachers, juvenile probation officers, therapists etc.).

Ensuring children are safe while they are online is just as important as making sure they are safe while out in the community. Learning ways to communicate with children about their online interactions will help keep them safer. We will cover inappropriate content, online privacy, sexting, online solicitation, and cyberbullying. We will include the latest trends and apps to be aware of as we discuss this important topic.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy: PCIT Building Self-Esteem and Managing Behaviors in Children
90-120 minutes
This presentation is based on the skills that are taught in Parent Child Interaction Therapy. This is an evidenced model that helps strengthen relationships between caregivers and children between the ages of 2 and 8. The PRIDE skills can be used in any setting with children to help manage behavior and increase compliance with children who have behavioral problems. This is an interactive, hands-on presentation where participants are able to learn the skills. The presentation is 90-120 minutes and is appropriate for anyone who cares for or works with children in this age range.

TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.
TBRI® is comprised of three essential elements: empowerment, connection, and correction. This abbreviated overview will introduce participants to each of the elements and provide practical solutions for incorporating them with children in your life.

This training will go in-depth to each of the TBRI principles: connection, empowerment and correction. The training is provided through the Fort Bend TBRI Collaborative which Child Advocates of Fort Bend is a proud partner. The training is 24 hours broken into 4 sessions.
