Friends is an auxiliary league for Child Advocates of Fort Bend. For 25 years, Friends has been helping the children served by Child Advocates of Fort Bend directly through a Special Needs Fund for items and services that these children need but are unable to afford. Friends currently has over 100 members, is managed by a Friends Council and provides volunteer opportunities and social events throughout the year. Why Friends is so Important to CAFB
CAFB cannot purchase items directly for the children we serve due to an inherent conflict of interest. Friends Council provides this direct assistance through their Special Needs Fund which reviews and grants Special Needs Requests for children’s needs which have included clothing, recognition awards, medical expenses, extra-curricular activities, camperships and other items that the children and their families are not able to afford.
Back To School Program
Friends Council coordinates and funds our annual Back-To-School Program which provides 125+ personalized backpacks for children from pre-K through high school.
Membership Coffees and Martini Nights
Annually in the Fall and in the Spring, Friends Council hosts a morning Friends Coffee and an evening Martini Night at a private home. These are opportunities to welcome new members, share the many contributions made by the council during the year or enjoy a guest speaker, fashion show, decorating ideas and other entertainment.
Special Projects
Friends Council members help out with various projects throughout the year volunteering at the office or at our Christmas Home Tour and annual Gala.
Membership is $40 per year. If you are interested in information about Friends, contact President Sue Lockwood at sklockwood@comcast.net. If you are interested in becoming a member, contact Alexis Jackson at alexisjackson@outlook.com or 713-582-1341.
