How is the child's case handled? ![]() How do children come to the Center? They are referred for services by Children's Protective Services, law enforcement, or the district attorney's office. What happens after a child arrives? They are greeted by a volunteer who helps to create a safe and nurturing environment by interacting with the Why is this important? child in a play area, putting them at ease while waiting. A forensic interviewer interviews the child in a child-friendly room while representatives from partner agencies view the interview in an adjoining room. Specially trained interviewers provide an environment that is safe and non-threatening where they can gather information from the child in ways that are developmentally appropriate for each child. Interviews are recorded so, hopefully, the child only has to tell their story once. What do you charge for your services? Nothing – families treated at the Center receive services (including therapy) free of charge. How is the child's case handled? The Center coordinates the child's case among all the partner agencies including CPS, law enforcement, and the District Attorney's office to ensure that the case gets the benefit of a timely, coordinated approach. Cases are routinely staffed with partner agencies to ensure that the investigations remain child focused. |
